Nagios Addons
Larger projects to extend the functionality of Nagios are called addons. There are many different addons which have different focuses on improving Nagios in different ways. There are graphing addons for graphing performance informations, mapping addons for creating nice views on the monitored systems, analyzing addons for creating reports. Other addons improve the default notification mechanism with more flexible ways notifying the administrators.
Community and Commercial Addons
The most addons were created during a request in a dedicated Nagios environment and then later released as Open Source. Most of the popular addons are maintained by the community.
There are also some addons which have been created by companies which make their business using Nagios. In most of these cases an addon has been developed for a special customer. Later it turned out that this Nagios Addon could be useful in other Nagios environments.
